About

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chowdhary is a young researcher who aspires to pursue his career in academia. His research interests are focused mainly on the emerging areas of Nanophotonics, Metamaterials, Terahertz Sensing, Terahertz Communication, and AI/ML Techniques for the above verticals. His academic background in electronics, communication engineering, photonics, and research background requiring expertise in physics, chemistry,material science, truly makes him an interdisciplinary researcher.

 

Dr. Ashish specializes in developing theory, modeling and simulation of smart tunable optical devices. He actively collaborates with many experimental groups from India and abroad. While pursuing a PhD (with Dr. Debabrata Sikdar), he has published over 20 research papers and filed a couple of patents. Through dedication and hard work, Dr. Chowdhary reached a milestone in his career when he graduated with the best thesis award medal in June 2022 for his significant contribution to the field of nanophotonics and metamaterials for designing smart windows, radiative coolers, and solar absorbers.

Presently he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Previously, he was working as a Post-Doctoral fellow (with Prof. Ranjan Singh) at the Center for Disruptive Photonic Technologies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

19 March 2025: The peer group of Dr Ashish Kumar Chowdhary at IIT Guwahati was granted an Indian patent for designing Electro-Optic Modulators that are frequency scalable as well as polarization insensitive. Congratulations to the Team !!
